2022: The behind-the-scenes review of my online business

Who doesn’t love the end-of-year review, right? We get to take a peek behind the curtains at what our favorite mentors, educators and industry leaders have been working on and their reflections on how it’s all gone.

This is my first year doing an official review, and I’ve decided to do a slightly different take on the typical topics covered. So rather than sharing my stats, I’m sharing my thoughts on the big and small shifts my business has gone through this year.

Enjoy!

What I did in 2022:

Heading into the new year, I’ve officially said goodbye to my Custom Branding & Website services. And over the course of 2022 I moved almost all of my done-for-you website work into my VIP Intensives where I got to do one-page website builds, SEO power-ups, sales page designs, branding redesigns as well as full website redesigns.

I also booked more Website Audits than last year and they’re definitely becoming my hands-down favorite way to geek out about all things web design!

I also released quite a few new courses and digital products!

And repackaged my now-retired Easy Website Kit into more focused and bite-sized individual products:

  • The Rosie Squarespace 7.1 Website Template (now retired)

  • Words For Your Website

  • SEO Keyword Planner

Oh, and I launched my very first coaching / mentorship container with my Life-First Business Mentorship!!

What I didn’t accomplish in 2022:

I don’t set myself traditional “goals” for my work or my business, but there were a few dream projects I had hoped to accomplish in 2022 that I didn’t get to.

The biggest one was completing the wonderful, and very extensive, Standout Squarespace* course that I’d enrolled in last year. It’s an outstanding course if you’re thinking about learning how to customize Squarespace with code, truly Rache has outdone herself with this course!

But it’s long, and technical and requires actually watching the videos to really grasp the concepts inside. And my “desk time” this year as been at a premium, so this sort of sit-down learning just wasn’t a priority for me this year.

Instead, I fell deeply in love with listening to course content and Q&A call replays on private podcasts 😍 So much so that I’ve been adding private podcast feeds to most of my courses with Hello Audio.

Biggest Business Win of 2022:

This won’t come as a shock to anyone whose been in my orbit over the past few months, but diving head-first into collaborating with my business bestie Olivia Radcliffe has been by far the most fun, rewarding and energizing experience in my business this year. We started our podcast Marketing Like a Mother on my birthday in late May 2022 and have released an episode a week ever since!

We also started a second business together based on our amazing collaboration, Like a Mother Movement, launched a program together and are now putting the final touches on our first-ever bundle event!

Biggest Ah-Ha Moment of 2022:

I’d been circling Elizabeth Goddard's* world for a while but finally took the leap and joined her group program Profitable Playground in September. And during our onboarding call Lizzy got my wheels majorly turning about the direction of my business, what I REALLY want to be doing with my work and how I want to show up and be known in this online space. This conversation sparked my new Life-First Business philosophy, my Mentorship program and a whole host of exciting ideas that will come to life in 2023

Sometimes it really does take one conversation with someone who really sees you, takes in all of your unique circumstances, constraints, hopes and dreams, and reflects them back to you with a different perspective that stretches your brain to think differently about a situation.

Most Interesting Experiment:

I love experimenting in my business and I think, for the most part, even if an experiment doesn’t work out the way I’d hoped there’s usually something valuable to learn from it.

That being said, the most interesting experiment I did in 2022 was letting my own brain and body call the shots more than I ever have before.

Our family is in a season of self-discovery and learning how to manage, regulate and live in sync with ourselves as human beings. Learning how our brains work, how we process information most easily, how we deal with sensory input, regulate emotions, and wear our fatigue - and how it all impacts how well we can show up in our work and for our loved ones.

This experiment is far from over - perhaps it will never end. But even with a year of being more intentional and attuned to what my brain and body need and how I work most effectively and efficiently, I’ve seen some big changes. Changes like feeling less tired even though I’m working fewer hours, bringing back a sense of fun and wonder in my work and unmasking a lot of the performative behaviors I felt I “should” be doing to “fit in” and not having my business come crashing down around me.

It feels really good and I’m excited to see how things evolve as I learn more about how best to use the brain I have, and lean into what makes me work best.

Most excited to try in 2023:

While I have a LOT of ideas brewing for the upcoming year, they’re mostly still working in progress at this point so I won’t tease anything just yet. However, seeing the response to my Life-First Business approach and working with clients inside the Mentorship has been overwhelmingly wonderful so you can be sure there’ll be more opportunities coming to dive deeper into this topic 😘
