Review of “Stand Up Copy” from Pass The Queso
While I’ve never taken any formal training, I consider myself pretty comfortable when it comes to writing sales copy. But besides knowing how to structure my sales pages and emails, I was definitely missing some core copywriting strategy.
Which brings me to Emilie from Pass The Queso. I took another course where Emilie was the messaging coach and with a few bits of feedback she finally made messaging as a concept click for me!
I grabbed a workshop here, a template there, and was sold on Emilie’s fun yet fluff-free approach to copywriting, and especially on nailing your messaging.
So I enrolled in her signature group program Stand Up Copy. And now I want to share with you what I thought about the program so you can decide if it’s a good fit for you too!
What is Stand Up Copy?
Stand Up Copy is Emilie’s 6-week group copywritng program where you’ll write your strategic sales page copy and sales emails in half the time. Each week, you work on one piece of your copy with it culminating in you completing your full sales page and emails, ready to launch.
The cohorts are nice and small (just 10 people each round) and you get lots of personal support from Emilie as well as the other members.
Here’s what’s included:
Instant access to trainings with lifetime access to the curriculum so you can come back to it over and over again. And bonus points, the videos are all under 20 minutes for easy binging.
3x live Copy Workshops where you can get real time feedback from Emilie t
Weekly 1:1 Copy Submissions to get custom feedback & edits on each sales asset (these were SOOO helpful!)
Slack Community with a warm, welcoming and supportive vibe
Wireframes & Templates with tons of helpful examples to help you write your copy FAST
Notion Sales Hub with to workshop all of your offers and keep your copy safely in one place (this was one of my favourite parts!)
NEW Data Collection Workshop before you start your cohort to start collecting the info you’ll need for your messaging
Who is Stand Up Copy a good fit for?
While there was a mix of newer and more established online business owners in my cohort, I do think it’s best suited for people who’ve got their foundations sorted. So I’d say a business owner 2-5 years in would be a perfect fit.
As for the types of businesses, it’s a real mix! My cohort was pretty much half-half B2B and B2C, with people in niches as varied as brand design to human design - and everything in between.
I will say, the group was all female presenting people and it does seem Emilie attracts a mostly female audience, though men would be warmly welcomed as well!
The main unifying charateristic of successful members is that they’re all self-starters. While there is lots of support in the program, you are still writing your copy. And the program is only 6-weeks long and moves at a steady clip so you do need to keep up.
When is the right time to join Stand Up Copy?
I joined my cohort with a brand new offer, and while it was helpful to work through my messaging and copy while it was still fresh and new… I think I could have gotten even more out of my time in the program if I was working on an existing, proven offer.
So if you do have an existing service, course, program or 1:many offer and are launching 6+ weeks out from a cohort start date, I’d say that would be ideal timing.
Emilie does only run Stand Up Copy 3 times a year and since the cohorts are capped at 10 people, so availability is also a big consideration.
My favourite parts of the program
The personalised support
Getting in-depth, direct feedback on my copy from Emilie was incredibly helpful. Not only does she look at what you write, she suggests other angles and topics you should cover as well.
For me, that turned 8 sales emails into 18 emails that spanned both my launch and the pre-sale period which was super helpful!
The Notion dashboard + templates
It’s no secret, I love a good Notion template! And the dashboard included in Stand Up Copy is top notch.
Not only can you keep track of your progress throughout the program, you also have baked in examples and “wireframes” for everything you need to write, baked right into the template.
And I love that you can use it over and over again for every offer and launch!
The community
While I’m usually much for community support, I found the small cohort to be really warm and supportive which encouraged me to use the community more than I typically would. It was also really helpful to see other business owners tackle their own copy alongside me, and learn from their breakthroughs as well.
Final thoughts
I really enjoyed my time inside Stand Up Copy, so much so I went on to join Emilie’s continuation program afterwards! I loved this approach to copy that feels more structured and logical vs pushy and salesy. And I finally wrapped my head around my messaging AND how to use it - which was a huge win for me!
If you’re looking for support pre-launch and want to get your sales page and sales emails sorted, I highly recommend checking out Stand Up Copy. And if you’re on the fence, please do feel free to reach out to me via email or DM me on Instagram and I’ll happily weigh in with my advice and experience!
